Well, that was an eye-opener. It amazes me that countries invest billions, spend years developing these sites and then just walk away. You’d think the economic boom during the event was worth less than the long-term effects of sustaining/re-using these complexes. The hard work’s already been done, why not hand over to Sports/Arts/Business institutes? If the financial burden of running these sites afterwards is too much for a Government to take on then privatise. Anything would be better than letting them rot and decay, if for no other reason than the impact on the local environment, which would’ve already seen a massive upheaval during the construction.
