Standoff Continues Over Filling Supreme Court Vacancy

As Congress returns to working in Washington this week, there is no end in sight to the presidential election-year standoff over filling a Supreme Court vacancy.
“Supreme Court Nominee Pushes Ahead Despite Fracas,” reported The New York Times. It said two Republican senators, Jerry Moran of Kansas and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, retreated on their earlier statements of support for holding confirmation hearings on the nomination of Judge Merrick Garland.
If there are more 4–4 court splits, and they come on high profile cases, White House strategists expect to use them to press Senate Republicans to back down on their blockade of the nomination, the newspaper said.
