We Really Need to Talk About Donald’s Treatment of Ivanka Now

This…this is suddenly a lot more creepy.

He talks that way about his own daughter.

In the immediate aftermath of any high profile story involving sexual assault we end up with a litany of men coming out of the woodwork and saying, “I don’t like that. I have a wife. I have daughters. I would hate to have anyone do something like that to my daughter.”

He talks that way about his own daughter.

Donald Trump’s erstwhile allies finally decided they’d had enough over the weekend.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell:

“These comments are repugnant, and unacceptable in any circumstance. As the father of three daughters, I strongly believe that Trump needs to apologize directly to women and girls everywhere, and take full responsibility for the utter lack of respect for women shown in his comments on that tape.”

He talks that way about his own daughter.

Former Presidential candidate Jeb Bush:

“As the grandfather of two precious girls, I find that no apology can excuse away Donald Trump’s reprehensible comments degrading women.”

He talks that way about his own daughter.

Former Presidential candidate Mitt Romney:

“Hitting on married women? Condoning assault? Such vile degradations demean our wives and daughters and corrupt America’s face to the world.”

He talks that way about his own daughter.

Current Donald Trump Running Mate Mike Pence:

“As a husband and father, I was offended by the words and actions described by Donald Trump in the 11-year-old video. I do not condone his remarks and cannot defend them. … We pray for his family and look forward to the opportunity he has to show what is in his heart when he goes before the nation tomorrow night.”

I am on the record as saying it doesn’t matter if a woman is someone’s wife, sister, or mother. It’s wrong to treat a woman as an object. Full stop. I consider the standard Republican response of, “Well I wouldn’t want someone talking about my daughter that way,” the bare minimum to qualify the speaker as a human being capable of empathy.

Donald Trump does not meet the bare minimum standard of humanity.

I am not seeing enough people talking about this. Hell, I’ve been thinking and writing about this for four days now and this is the first time I’ve made that mental connection.

It was just a joke that we all laughed about. I think it’s time to stop laughing.
