I worked over Reactor 1 during my 3 years there. I was about 10 feet away. I was not a radiation worker so I never was given a dosimeter to wear. The ship was built during the cold war to escort Nuke carriers.
It was never documented so I, to this day get nothing from the government for it. Two others that worked in my department have exactly the same condition. It affects most of the soft glands, thyroid is the easiest to go first.

VA has denied my claim because the ship has been decommissioned since 1999. No way to prove it now.
