France XVIIth century, theatre is dominated by Corneille and Racine, tragedy is the major art form.

Molière is bad at playing tragedy and his theatre is deep in debt. He decides to flee Paris and spends 12 years playing in small towns and villages, understanding his audience and inventing modern comedy.

Back in Paris, writes great comedies with huge success. Corneille and Racine are still played today, but we, the French people speak “la langue de Moliere”.

So here you go, maybe the first example of “disruptive business strategy”: start with smaller markets, discover your audience, its needs and then challenge and defeat the giants of your time.
