On May 26, Georgia celebrated the restoration of its independence.

Celebration activities are themed after the 850 years of birth anniversary of the 12th century Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli — author of the iconic medieval poem ‘The Knight in the Panther’s Skin’.

At the ceremony, held on the occasion of the Independence Day of Georgia in Freedom Square of Tbilisi, up to 300 conscripts have taken military oath before the Commander-in- Chief of the Georgian Armed Forces, President Giorgi Margvelashvili. President congratulated the population and the Government of Georgia on the occasion of the Independence Day and wished further development, success and reinforcement to the nation on the path from independence to freedom.

“Today, Georgia is an independent and free country determined never to give up this most glorious achievement,” Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili addressed the nation at the ceremony.
