Gender in Hip-Hop

Hip-Hop is one of the most popular genres in the music industries and one of the most play music in the nation and worldwide. There are many other types of genre music but people are most attractive and identify themselves in any hip-hop song. In today society hip-hop is not only about music but also about personal experiences. Hip-Hop music videos in our society are presented in a role or gender of how people fit in that particular role of either men or women. Some videos roles are clearly to identify because of how some artist lyrics talks about the role of men making all this money and going to the strip club and making it rain to strippers because of their beauty and pole skills. As difficult to believe society still watch this music videos with a lot of violence and sexual assault in it which society suppose are not acceptable.

The role of men in Hip-hop videos

In most videos men are presented as the man with a lot of power, money, and influences on society. One of the most common view things in those videos are tense of violence, hyper-masculinity, and sexual dominance. One of the music videos I can think of is Banz A Would Make Her Dance music video by Juicy J ft Lil wayne and 2 Chainz. sex and wealth are portray in the video. In the beginning of the video Juicy J is showing wealth power because he is throwing money to a stripper that’s dancing in a pole. During the whole video he is always surrounded by beautiful women that are dancing for him or his group of friends they included famous strippers and porn stars. Throughout the whole video there is a significant small of male dominant because there more women than men. As you can see in the video most of this women are strippers that are trying to get all this money he is spending on them. Basically the song said that Bangs or stack of money would make the stripper dances in order to get that money. This video can sent a message that man are in charge or control of women because they have the power or make all most of the money than women because they are working in sexual places or working in a low income place.

Another Video

Another video that I can think is “We fly high” by Jim Jones in the beginning of the video its start with a group of men carrying bags of money just getting out a private jet and ready to get in their nice cars. They are driving to their huge mansion in Hollywood with lots of money. Throughout the whole video they’re surrounded by fancy things and a majority of beautiful women wearing provocative clothes. The video could portrait a message that most of the power and money are control by men and that women are control by men or just seen as a sexual object in society.

Women role in Hip-hop

Hip-hop videos are a representation of the song lyrics and the role of people play in are very specific and related to real live situation. I think that in any Hip-Hop video there is always a women in the background dancing provocatively in revealing clothing and showing sign of sexual intention with their body movement. Women are picture as a sexual object and decoration in the videos where people can see that men are in control of them because they are surrounded by a higher number of women. Also in most of today songs women are called vulgar names like bitches and hoes. This videos show that most women are being reduce down to a low level where they only useful for their attractive body parts. One of the videos I can see very similar to this is I wanna love you also knowing as “I wanna fuck you,” by Akon Ft. Snoop Dogg. The video show a group of ladies dancing vey provocative and sexual way with little dress, demonstrating sexual behavior toward the men. Throughout the whole video women are only dancing for the men and they are the center of attention because of their dance movements and sexual attractive bodies. These behavior and action only show that women are objects to men and are only there for their pleasure. A good example in the song is when snoop dogg say that “I’m stuck on pussy and your is right. This only show that they only care about their sexual body parts. Women are only being displayed in this manner in most of Hip-hop artist videos. The lyric of the song and the a video are a demonstration of how gender can be identify and know the roles of men and women in hip-hop industry.

Hip-hop in our society

Many of this Hip-Hop videos have an impact in today society. Gender is something that has its label to for example there are many stereotypes about people or culture that can have a negative way of viewing things or how things should be. After every song there is a message deliver whether is negative or positive. In today hip-hop rappers always talk about their life experiences and how they became success and talk about all of their luxury things. Most of this videos expressed a significant amount of sexuality that viewers can related to special most teenagers. Hip-hop is one of the most popular genre of music in America and majority of its fans or listener are youths teenagers. During this period of time most teenagers are trying to find themselves and hip-hop can help them in a positive or negative way to find their own style or identity. These music videos can influences their behaviors, attitudes, and actions during their teenager years. As I say before these videos effect our society because they show male predominant with power and money than women. These videos are making telling the roles of men and women in today society.
