On Driving in Cars In the Rain

Gregory Thielker painted this and other incredibly hyperrealistic rain-through-car-window images that inspired this post. Go check out his “Under the Unminding Sky” series, it’s incredible. F’real.

There's something about being in a car, driving in the rain, that's like being in the womb. You've got the sense of protectedness, of closeness around you.

You've got the awareness of being surrounded by water. You've got the gentle constant vibration that comes from living below a heartbeat, and the thrum and whoosh of fluids moving in the body around you, bringing life, bringing you to life.

And you've got the sense of an impending destination, of movement towards the inevitable.
