Landfills have become a necessity for every city around the world. Without landfills, there would be no place to dump the garbage from households and industries. Archeological evidence shows that mankind has always disposed of their garbage in dumps. It is the oldest method of waste disposal, and it is still in use today. Lavajet has been providing reliable and efficient waste management for almost 25 years and is a leader in the industry.

The Impact of Landfills on the Environment

Though landfills have been used as a system of waste management from time immemorial, there are quite a few costs associated with modern landfills. Some of the impacts on the environment include damage to access roads by heavy vehicles, pests, dust, odor, and noise. Though landfills are necessary and have a positive side, the impact on the environment is quite alarming. Leakage from landfills have contaminated the groundwater in several places and have also caused air pollution. Methane gas released from landfills are dangerous to the environment. Methane is a greenhouse gas and is about 21 times more powerful than carbon dioxide, and having it released in the atmosphere causes global warming.

How to Reduce Waste

Societies that have a “use and throw” policy end up having to deal with more waste disposal. Just having to transport waste to the landfill facility itself produces greenhouse gases. The best way to reduce greenhouse gases is by reducing the amount of organic waste that is thrown away. Composting, recycling, and reusing are some of the ways that we can help reduce the amount of waste ending up in the landfills.

Lavajet has built state-of-the-art facilities where the waste is processed before it is dumped at the landfill.
