The 3rd annual RegTech Summit Europe was held at the City Road Conference Centre, London. The event brought together leading stakeholders in the RegTech community to discuss how major financial institutions implement RegTech in addition to the implementation of case studies and analysis in the community.
The RegTech Community
The one-day conference promoted networking with decision makers from areas such as banking, hedge funds, insurance companies, regulators, law firms, trading firms and exchanges. Key topics included the current state of the RegTech market, MiFID II, token sales, GDPR compliance and how blockchain is changing the financial services industry globally.
GSX Group’s Chief Compliance Officer Targ Patience spoke on the first session panel of the day which focused on the impact of MiFID II, sharing the stage with Chad Giussani, Head of Transaction Reporting Compliance at Standard Chartered Bank, Rajeev Gupta, Consultant for BNY Mellon and Gouri P. Khatua, Regulatory Consultant for Grant Thornton LLP.
MiFID II Compliance
The panel topic was titled ‘Achieving MiFID II Compliance’ and centred around how the industry was coping with MiFID II, what challenges still needed to be addressed and how RegTech can help firms comply with the new Regime. Targ said during the discussion:
“The changing regulatory environment has meant that technological solutions are often the only viable way to meet compliance needs. Technology is necessarily evolving to address the inefficiencies presented by the existing market structure, technology and data management. There is still a lot of room for refinement across all of these components.”
It was a great chance for Targ to present the current feeling and sentiment he views from Gibraltar and GSX in relation to the impact of MiFID II. The conference brought about the opportunity to network, with Targ speaking to attendees about the work of the Gibraltar Stock Exchange (GSX) and its latest initiative, the Gibraltar Blockchain Exchange (GBX), and how Gibraltar as a whole is fast becoming a global fintech hub.
