Oh my, this really hit home. I was a mental health nurse for 20+ years and had to leave for many reasons. Mostly I found the bureaucracy that favored the suits and ties over the patients and frontline workers to be abusive and sickeningly corrupt. Nurses are the punching bags and then my role as a clinical nurse specialist was to placate and give lip service to nurses so they wouldn’t get too loud or bothered. Horrifying. And nurses are not actually able to help because the system strangled them and forces them to do more with less and turn their faces from suffering in favor of getting the patients quickly out the door. Sigh. Thanks for sharing this article and your experience in such a creative and powerful way!!
