I agree that you can’t just take tips from someone else at face value as “the solution”.

But, I think the tips articles are helpful — at least for me personally — because it’s a thought exercise, a buffet of ideas that I get to sample.

I get to see what worked for others and consider if any of it might work for me. If I really like an idea, it gives me room to experiment and try a new habit on for size.

Tips are just that — snippets of thoughts (maybe poorly organized or without context) about what was successful from someone else’s life. They aren’t rules to live by or the key to a successful life. Taking tips as all-knowing guru insight, yes, I’d frown on that, too.

But I think a lot of value comes from being exposed to new ideas to consider, not blindly follow.
