My Own Hockey Headlines
I have written about sports for many years and I’m finally taking the ultimate leap.
I have always been a sports fan. Especially hockey. I have watched as much hockey as possible over the years, religiously cheering on my favourite Canadian teams. I’ve been a WHL/NHL season ticket holder for over ten years and I truly love the game. My son plays hockey and my husband coaches minor hockey. I am the ultimate hockey fan/mom/wife.
For about 5 years now, I have covered hockey games online, writing about breaking news, game recaps, and anything else I felt that fans would want to know. I am not a rumour-chaser. I will not write hurtful words for a few page hits. Even if the rumours turn out to be true, I will not write negative things just so people will read my work. Which is probably why I’m failing at formal sports writing.
I like covering interesting positive information about teams and players. I like watching games and giving my own personal analysis. I like being an armchair GM in a world full of armchair GMs. I have covered everything from my son’s minor league hockey games to WHL, AHL, and NHL hockey. I love everything about this game. It brings me happiness. And that’s what I want to do for others. I want to make people smile when I tell them their favourite player just got re-signed, or that their team has traded for someone new.
Hockey is about having fun — at all levels, from player to fan. I want to be part of that fun. So I have given up my post as a formal hockey writer and I’ve decided to branch out on my own.
I am starting to cover the games, players, news, and information that I want to cover instead of adding to the shameful disgrace that includes hateful/negative/ignorant sports coverage. In a world full of hockey assholes that troll social media, I refuse to be one of them. I will not be part of it.
I want to be part of the group of fans that enjoys hockey and likes to enjoy it with other people. If you like the game, have a valid opinion, and want to be part of a group of people who will have a positive impact on social media, then let’s do this — Let’s talk hockey!
