Point taken. CNN is a for-profit machine, just as guilty of all the failings of any 24-hour-news platform as any of the others doing what they do. Just because I currently find them the least objectionable doesn’t absolve them of that. I’d reference you to the videos on YouTube of Jon Stewart’s appearance on “Crossfire’s” original incarnation with Paul Begala and a much younger Tucker Carlson for a brutal analysis of why CNN and the American media in general doesn’t serve the needs of the American people (which, for all the on-camera bickering, was apparently followed up by a much more civil and useful discussion that wasn’t televised, which says a lot right there.)
But do the anchors (and not just on CNN) “ask for” this sort of…self-righteous, aggressive dance (which isn’t wholly partisan; Pelosi does it quite well, for example, just not with the “fake news” narrative thrown in)? I don’t know. These people are professionals, they know that not every interview is going to be a piece of cake. But I’ve been following American politics for about 15 years now and I don’t remember so many days when so many interviews have seemed like an out-and-out battle. And this interview struck me because I’ve never seen a reporter so close to crying out of frustration. I don’t know, maybe it shook me up a bit?
You’re right about CNN being all Trump, all the time, though. It’s great incentive for him to keep doing what he’s doing, with the tweeting and the insults and all — look at all the coverage he gets!
Thanks for the comment. :)
