Gistory’s team came up with a list of 10 stories that we think should have deserved deeper coverage in the news this year.

Why are we doing this? Gistory has contributors all over the world and a very diverse team: we are from India, from the United States, from France. We have backgrounds in Asia, in Europe and elsewhere. Often, when discussing story ideas for Gistory, we discuss what mattered the most for us and this would vary from a country to another.

How did we pick the stories? We mostly looked at reports from NGOs, local and international media, to pick 10 situations that shaped a country or a region but didn’t get as much attention as we thought it should have. That doesn’t mean the stories got no attention: we think it should get more of our attention.

There is no order, and no story that matters more than the other: we think they all matter. Did Gistory report on it? We tried our best: for some, you can find a lot of stories on our website. For others, you’ll find none. This is where we will improve on in 2016.

We will publish one underreported story every day for the next 10 days and we are starting today with Yemen’s humanitarian crisis.
