Giving Circles Fund Announcement

Dear Giving Circles Fund Community,

Since Giving Circles Fund joined the Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen Foundation, our community has given more than $234,000 to 100+ nonprofits. Through giving circles, you’ve made grants to organizations large and small, located across the country. From inception, Giving Circles Fund has worked to empower its users to give collectively and effectively. Our priority is that our users have the best collective giving experience possible and the tools to maximize their philanthropic impact. With this goal as our primary concern, today, we announce a change and excitedly share an opportunity for you to take your giving circles in a new and high-impact direction.

Effective October 18th, 2018, Giving Circles Fund will end its active operations; we will no longer accept new circles or new members/donations to existing circles. Between October and December 2018, we will work with circles and circle leaders to make final grants, and effective December 2018, the Giving Circles Fund site will no longer be available. We believe that the best way to continue to maximize your impact is for you to transition your circles to Growfund for Giving Circles, which is designed to specifically meet the unique needs of collective giving. (Growfund for Giving Circles is a version of the Growfund no minimum contribution Donor Advised Fund product). You will continue to be able to access all of the LAAF.org philanthropy educational resources for free through the LAAF.org website, and we look forward to sharing forthcoming resources with you. It has been a privilege to be a part of your giving journey and we are deeply grateful.

The Growfund for Giving Circles platform allows you to make grants at any time, and nonprofits will seamlessly receive an award letter. You will also have the ability to generate customized reports, and all circle members will automatically receive tax receipts when making contributions to your fund. Growfund for Giving Circles is a different platform than GCF. There is a 3% processing fee on credit cards (no fees on donations made through paper checks) and Growfund for Giving Circles charges a distribution fee of 1% of the total grant amount. This fee is used to support the operational costs of the platform and allows them to offer a “no minimum” Donor Advised Fund (DAF) in support of democratizing giving. We believe they will be a strong partner and will continue to elevate your circle’s work and impact. To learn more about their platform, join Growfund for Giving Circles and Giving Circles Fund for informational webinars on Tuesday, October 16th (access the 10/16 webinar here) from 3:00–4:00 PM PST and Friday, October 26th from 11:00 AM — 12:00 PM (access the 10/26 webinar here); webinars will include a demo, so joining on a computer is preferred.

A GCF representative will be in touch with you about the process for either 1) making final grants that will disburse all existing money in your circle to the nonprofit(s) of your circle’s choosing, or 2) transitioning your funds to Growfund for Giving Circles. Thank you for the honor of sharing your giving journey with us; we hope you will continue to pursue your philanthropic passions.
