This piece much like a piece where someone claimed to like the current President I see and just shake my head. I feel like I am witnessing someone who is falling for a con artist and there is nothing I can do.
Blaming criticism of Hillary on some sort of sexism is from the outside laughable, but seems logical for a person falling for a con. It is an attempt to rationalize the mountain of evidence against her. Just as many would do the same in regards to our current President. The media just don’t like him is much easier than having to defend the indefensible.
This sort of hero worship through rose colored glasses is problematic for us as a society and as a nation. We need to be able to hold public figures accountable. We seem to have gotten to the point where each side has successfully demonized the other to such an extent that people have a tough time filtering what is real from all the political noise. This only helps the people in power. It makes them largely unaccountable because we NEED them to defeat the real enemy which is the other side.
The only way to change this is for us as a people to stand up against this. We have to reject rhetoric that portrays the other side as being evil. Example: Supporting abortion doesn’t mean you want to kill babies and opposing it doesn’t mean that you want to oppress women. We need to act like adults and honestly represent the opposing views. Part of stating why your side of an argument is superior is stating the honest reasoning of the other side and then making the case as to why it isn’t as big of a deal as yours. That is throwing out the obvious other possibility of working to find common ground that threads the needle that satisfies all concerns and parties.
Today too many are completely clueless when it comes to the honest opinion of the other side. One side wants to suppress votes while the other side wants to allow cheating. One side wants nobody ever allowed into the country while the other wants 8 billion to be able to move in tomorrow. It is insane what gets passed off as the other side’s opinion these days. The only people it helps are con artist politicians. It is how we ended up with a nation of 310+ million two candidates for President that would be depressing if they were your choices for mayor of your 100 person town.
