Why argue that science is on your side and then make outlandish and untrue statements? CO2 levels are rising, but not to the highest levels in history. They are at the highest levels since we began keeping records. We don’t know what a temperature rise would mean exactly. So why assume it would be a disaster? Assuming that it would be isn’t scientific at all. It is speculation.

Human beings are surely making an impact on the environment there are 8 billion or so of us. This doesn’t mean the sky is falling. We are pretty adaptive as is our world. 400 ppm for CO2 is an arbitrary threshold. The earth will not spontaneously combust if we exceed it. According to fossil records the previous periods with the highest levels of carbon dioxide were also the periods where there was the greatest boom in life. The greatest threat to our world would be a temperature decrease not an increase. Another ice age would surely reduce food supply. Temperature increases could very well increase them as land that was once unusable for agriculture could be used.

There is more that we don’t know than we know. Part of the ways our brains work though is to pretend otherwise because it makes our day to day decisions easier. None of that means that we shouldn’t seek cleaner energy and to reduce our impact on the environment. We should and for the most part we are. Most pollution measures today are much improved over a few decades ago even as population continued to expand and energy use continued to increase.
