In a recent interview, Raiders receiver Michael Crabtree heaped high praise on his quarterback Derek Carr, calling him a “gunslinger” and evoking comparisons to Hall-of-Famer Brett Favre.
While Favre himself may not see the resemblance, he did have some praise of his own to send in Carr’s direction when he got wind of Crabtree’s comments. Favre would go on to say that he doesn’t necessarily see Carr as a “gunslinger” in the pocket, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. He says that Carr is more polished than he was at the same point in his career.
Favre earned the “gunslinger” name due to his willingness to throw the ball to his receivers, regardless of whether or not they were open.
