Can you clarify the “fan fiction” comments you made? On one hand, you suggest that, for a submission to Obsidian, one writes not about Lord of the Rings or a homebrew setting, but Tyrrany, or Pillars of Eternity. Later, you caution people against fan fiction. Is this just a matter of walking a fine line between contributing authentically within the established setting, and fleshing out one’s fantasies that appear on page to be indulgent? As someone writing for a Shadowrun Returns mod, I don’t always know when I am gaining valuable experience navigating the ocean of pre-existing lore, and when I am instead drifting into “fan fiction” territory.
