Like Free Tickets? Like Knives?

Glensheen Spooktacular, is home to over 1,000 hand-carved, glowing jack-o’-lanterns staged across the 7-acre estate.

One may ask, how does the transformation of pumpkins to jack-o’-lanterns happen? Knives. And a lot of volunteers.

Each year, hundreds of volunteers from the community come to Glensheen to turn a pumpkin into a jack-o’-lantern. Spooktacular would not be possible without the support of the community lending their creative, carving hands. All sorts of people come to join in the carving craze. Schools, families, friends, college students, you name it. Since Glensheen is a department of UMD, many UMD student groups come in droves to carve their masterpiece.

What do the volunteer carvers receive in return for their time and pumpkin masterpieces? Of course the festive adventure of carving a pumpkin and no clean up. But also, a free ticket to the opening night of Spooktacular, Thursday, October 23rd.

So rally the troops, pick the pumpkin that speaks to you, carve your masterpiece then receive a free ticket to Spooktacular to see your work of art in action.

Pumpkin Carving will take place, October 19th — October 21st, 1:00 pm — 7:00 pm in Glensheen’s Winter Garden. Glensheen provides the pumpkins, knives, and carving tools.
