Vegan Fast Food, Who Knew?
Vegan: A person who does not eat or use animal products.
Sounds pretty straight forward, yet the idea of veganism can be ultra intimidating especially in a “real world” setting. Animal product and/or byproducts lie in the most unlikely of places. As a conscious consumer one can never be too careful.
You’ve come this far, you’ve made this commitment yet who always has the time, energy, or want to get all obsessive or weird with how, when and what they eat at any given moment of the day?
I understand you’re busy so here’s a compiled “Cheat Sheet” of some of the most popular Fast Food chains to grab some Vegan-friendly food on the go with as little thinking as possible.
What to Eat and Where:
Taco Bell is a very vegan friendly fast food stop. Going so far as to be the first fast food chain to have menu items certified by AVA (Americas Vegetarian Association) . The beans, potatoes, tortillas, guacamole, and rice are all vegan so have at the menu, being sure to hold the sour cream, meat and cheese that is.
Here’s a tip to ordering like a Fast Food Vegan Pro; if you place an order asking to “Make it Fresco” they will automatically replace cheese and sour cream for their pico de gallo (That basically translates to salsa for the Spanish impaired).
You can even choose a “no think” option right off the menu in their Vegan Bean Burrito! Top it all off with cinnamon twists and you got yourself a fast food feast!
Because you can skip a pebble and hit a Starbucks it’s good to know your can and can’t when on the go:
Multigrain, plain, blueberry, cinnamon and sprouted grain bagels are all certified vegan. Feel free to top with their organic avocado spread.
Perfect oatmeal you can top with brown sugar, nut medley or a fruit medley!
If you’re a grab and go’er chose dark-chocolate bars, Bissinger’s Minis, fruit salads or dried fruits, sea salt potato chips, raw granola bars, or roasted almonds!
Since ordering coffee and tea at Starbucks is a whole “ta-do” for everyone here’s a list so you know what to go for compiled by Urbantastebud, they’ve got your back.
Right off the bat, or menu in this case, the Vegetarian Black Bean Soup is vegan. As for bread your choices lie in country, whole grain, rye, sourdough, tomato basil, french baguette, sea salt focaccia, ciabatta, and the sprouted grain roll. Bread bowl here I come, a quick fix for any “questionable” noodle is noodles with olive oil and salt.
Now salads are an option if you ask to hold chicken and cheese, but here’s a hack you can substitute the chicken for avocado for free!
Blueberry, whole grain, plain, sesame, sprouted grain and everything bagel are up for literal grabs.
Recently too Panera introduced “Power Smoothies” in Green Passion and Blueberry Pomegranate.
If you have a pizza craving look no further then the “Hut” itself! You can order their Veggie Lovers Pizza right off the menu just “hold the cheese”.
Dominos used to could do the same but since introducing their thin crust option they’ve added honey and since that can be a no-go for many a bee conscious vegan I’d stick with the Hut.
You even have the option of crust, Thin ‘N Crispy or Hand Tossed, and sauce Regular or Sweet! As a plus their dessert crust is also vegan.
If the potato lover in you wants to “Have it your way” then look no further then the creepy plastic mask of the Burger King! You can have guilt-free French fries or Hash Brown Bites!

You don’t always have to think in order to eat out on the go. Because sometimes it’s nice to know you can order without all the fuss that usually comes with diet limitations. Eat up and enjoy my conscious happy friend!
