The way you describe this “rapidly spinning wheel of technology” is daunting and scary, and rightfully so. In comparison to the hundreds of years preceding the 21st century, we are surely seeing much more advancement in technology. However, I wonder if there are different perspectives to consider. We are seeing rapidly changing technology, but often in similar ways (i.e. there’s a different phone every other day, but they are all smartphones, right?). If we consider other less obvious forms of technology, is the 21st century so different than the rest? My question comes down to this comparison of this century to the others: is it possible our proximity and involvement in these technology versus the ones from other centuries creates a bit of a bias? (I’m trying to think of a way to see this in a less terrifying light…and I am only partially convincing myself, even.)
