Common medlar

The medlar (Mespilus germanica) is rarely seen in gardens these days. But the fruit is attractive: soft, sweet and juicy after a few mild frosts.

It is not a tall tree and it grows “flat” with horizontal branches, not unlike a mulberry tree.

Flowers white and mildly scented.
