WHAT IS ZUMBA® AND WHERE DID IT COME FROM?

Enter any busy gym at peak hours and you might hear the pounding noise. You may see the dancers. And if you didn’t know any better, your first thought might be: This isn’t exercise. This is fun. What’s going on here?

It’s Zumba®. Created during the 1990s by Columbian dancer and choreographer Alberto “Beto” Perez, the dance fitness program incorporates dance and aerobics to promote fitness.

Zumba®’s trademark is owned by Zumba® Fitness, LLC. Brazilian pop singer Claudia Leitte is Zumba® Fitness’ international ambassador.

We at Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club certainly enjoy this fusion of Latin rhythms and easy movements for a unique and exhilarating exercise experience.

ZUMBA® GOES BIG AND BOLD

Zumba® has gone big time and has stirred a fitness revolution, becoming the single most influential movement in the exercise industry , according to Zumba® costa blanca. More than 15 million people at more than 200,000 locations in 180 countries participate in Zumba® classes every week, according to www.zumba.com.

Perez reportedly had something of a Zumba® epiphany one day in the mid-1990s in Cali, Columbia as he strolled into his aerobics class. Preparing for one of his classes, he suddenly realized he hadn’t brought his aerobics music.

Perez quickly reached into his backpack and grabbed other music tapes — some of his personal favorites. The music, however, was traditional Latin salsa and merengue music. His first thought: How was he going to use unconventional aerobics music for an aerobics class? That’s when Perez’s revolution began: the Zumba Fitness-Party™!

It became the most popular class at his fitness facility, according to Zumba® costa blanca. In 2001, he took his classes — and the movement — to the United States.

Licensed Zumba® instructors lead the hour-long sessions that incorporate fast and slow movements. Cumbia, salsa, merengue, mambo, flamenco, chachacha, reggaeton, soca, samba, hip hop, axe and tango music styles are employed in Zumba® routines.

Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club holds complimentary Zumba® class for members every Monday and Friday at 2 p.m. Our instructor is Nina Whitener.
