Loving Those You Teach by Giving them the Gift of the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Let me first start off by saying that I truly believe that not only do we have a Heavenly Father that lives, but that He loves each and everyone of you. My hope today is that my message will give you a more clear understanding about how our Heavenly parents have the deepest and most selfless love that can be felt and seen if we truly work very hard to obey the commandments given by His beloved prophets, especially one of the important and selfless commandments to go and to teach His Gospel to His children in this world that is given in Matthew 28:19.

The Creation Was a Very Selfless Act

Before I was assigned this topic to speak about I’ve been having many strong impressions and thoughts on this question “Why did Heavenly Father create the Earth?” We know that His residence is in a better place than the place where all of us currently reside [Earth]. We can even ask why did He put or allow us to be here since we can be pretty good at screwing this place up. Literally every great thing given has been abused and dragged through the mud.

It gets even better in Moses 7:36 we learn that some of the groups that have lived on this planet have been the most wicked of all the creations: “Wherefore, I can stretch forth mine hands and hold all the creations which I have made; and mine eye can pierce them also, and among all the workmanship of mine hands there has not been so great wickedness as among thy brethren.”

So Why? Why create this planet that will be filled with wicked groups of people? We learn from Moses 1:33 — And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten.

Looking at this scripture with our human minds, it can seem slightly selfish. “Mine Own Purpose”. There’s no reward explained just yet, so technically it’s safe to say it’s not selfish. Even though the terminology sounds like it.

Then finally what is “His Own Purpose” — in Moses 1:39 He tells us His Purpose “ 39: For behold, this is my work and my glory — to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.”

He goes from a scripture that can seem like one of the most selfish scriptures, to a scripture that by far is one of the most selfless statements that can be said.

When we think about our work and what makes us great, what would say in this instance: Maybe : This is my work and my glory to have a bigger and nicer home than all of my friends. Some of you might say My work and my glory is to just survive the day! Maybe even some of you might My work and my glory is to not go crazy even though my kids are bringing me in that direction.

It’s as if we saw Heavenly Fathers’ Linkedin account, and it says “This is my work to bring to pass the immortality and Eternal life of man” With the list of all the worlds and the fact that He’s our father.

By Knowing His Purpose We Can Know Our Purpose

His work is two fold — -

  1. Immortality — You might be saying yes this is completely fulfilled by Jesus Christ and his Resurrection, there’s nothing I need to do here. Lets move onto discussing Eternal Life. We do have a role in this action item. Lets hold up — our mothers and even our fathers, future married couples, can bring forth this item of Purpose. Think about the movements to promote people to not have children. A spirit can’t become Mortal if they’re not born. Without the Mortal you can’t be Immortal. The requirement is birth, combined with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our first parents Adam and Eve played a major role in this and we’re if not just as important as they were, most importantly combined with the suffering death and Resurrection of Savior Jesus Christ on the cross.

His Love Doesn’t Just Stop With Immortality

  1. Not only does He loves us by giving us this beautiful world THAT HE Doesn’t Have to give (remember He has other planets — He doesn’t need ours). Then to provide a way back, He provides a Savior.
  2. The Gift of Eternal Life — The second core element of His purpose is for each of us to have Eternal Life or Exaltation. Our Heavenly Father loves us so much He wants us to enjoy the state of existence He now enjoys.

Eternal Life is the Greatest Gift — Love in a sense is giving gifts

D & C 14:7 explains that this is the greatest gift. Talk about an incredible present! To obtain this gift we learn of the requirements throughout the scriptures and even in General Conference talks. The core requirements are faith, repentance, baptism, the Gift of the Holy Ghost and endurance to the end. Everything our church promotes and influences is for Gods children to obtain this gift.

If It’s The Greatest Gift — Our Teachings of Christ are the greatest thing we can Give

D&C 93:19 Says — I give unto you these sayings that you may understand and know how to worship, and know what you worship, that you may come unto the Father in my name, and in due time receive of his fulness.

We hold the talents and knowledge to help educate another on how to correctly worship Jesus Christ. We have oceans of good people that aren’t worshiping Jesus Christ correctly, they claim to know His name, making one believe they need no more water. They’re drinking the water the Samaritan women pulled out of the well in John 4 that offers hydration for a small period of time, feeling satisfied with the water they were given on this earth but not drinking the Living water offered by Christ that offers an endless amount of hydration.

Teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ Moves the Work of Eternal Life — Connecting Our Purpose with His Purpose

So What does it Mean to Love those We Teach

To want someone to have Eternal life so badly that you’re willing to give up your pride, sacrifice your time, maybe even lose money so someone can have the knowledge that it takes to have this gift, will naturally help you love them.

  • To Strip Ourselves of Apathy
  • Hearts are set upon the things D and C 121:35
  • Serving Him with all of our heart, might, mind and strength
  • Having an eye single to the glory of God
  • Faith, Hope, and Charity

If You Do These Things You Will Come to Know Jesus Christ

132: 24 This is eternal lives — to know the only wise and true God, and Jesus Christ, whom he hath sent. I am he. Receive ye, therefore, my law.

God Loves Us

  • He pushed for this world to be created
  • He gave us agency, even though He knew it would be abused
  • He gave us HIS Son so that we can enjoy both Immortality and Eternal Life
  • He gave us prophets to educate us about His Son
  • He gave us temples, to help us worship His Son
  • He gave us all the good things of this earth so we can be glad

He Consecrated all that He Has so we can progress to be like — What better way to become like Him but to consecrate and repent of all of our sins. After all — this is how He gained his knowledge.
