Good feelin’ Friday

22 August, 2014

It’s Friday, Baby Boy!

We had a really good week, starting with a visit from Grandma and Grandpa DeBartolo, and their good friends Gerry and Jim. Your dad made hamburgers on the grill, I made a fruit salad, and we just chatted and had a great time. Jim gave us some ideas on how to make a pantry in the little space where we keep our food on shelves in the kitchen.

Later this week we hung out with our pal Charles at Golden Crust pizza just around the corner. They have a nice beer garden and really good pizza, and they had a bossa band playing that evening. I wondered if you could hear it, and if you liked it.

Then Wednesday we met with a doula named Heather. A doula is an expert on bringing babies into the world by helping moms and dads prepare and feel supported during delivery. We want to do everything we can to make your arrival a happy and relaxed one, and that’s not always easy to do in a modern hospital. We also met another one today named Lacy. Both were great- we have a lot to think about.

The other big news this week is that your bedroom furniture was ordered today! Both sets of your grandparents wanted to buy your crib and all the other pieces, and that’s what they did. It will be made in Indiana and will ship in about 8 weeks. We’re excited to finally get your room together!

So tomorrow we’ll be at 26 weeks, kid. The websites say you’re 1 2/3 pounds and about 14 inches from head to heel. When I lie on my belly, I sometimes see your movements very clearly under the surface… both quick jabs and slow, languorous rolls. Do you feel me rubbing and poking back at you? Do you hear your dad making foghorn sounds into my abdomen? Do you have any inkling just how weird this old world is? Hopefully it will be many years before you can answer that last question. Until then, keep on kicking… and I’ll send down the occasional bowl of ice cream. xoxo
