See your upcoming events in Dock icon

If you like me have many events during the day, you are probably also tired by constant switching to Mac Calendar or Google Calendar just to check when the next event starts. I searched for a widget that would show me upcoming events in some “always visible” way, but all apps showed the schedule in a separate window. So I decided to make a new app that would show a schedule right in a Dock icon. More to this, My Upcoming Events shows a countdown in the same Dock icon several minutes before the start of the event, which is handy for me, so I can start right on time :)

Treenga, the new issue management system

First of all, let’s define how issues (let’s use “tasks” further) can be grouped. We will talk about operational tasks here, not strategical, which require different tools and workflow. The first group of tasks can be called the keynotes. These initial task descriptions work as the catalyst for the consequent…

Building the Best Mega Menu

First of all, nothing can be better than a flat, one level menu. However, the problem is that a simple menu is applicable for small sites only. When we need to build navigation paths for something that has more than ten pages, we are forced to create multi-level menus. Let…

𝔹𝕝𝕦𝕣𝕣𝕖𝕕 𝕀𝕞𝕒𝕘𝕖𝕤 𝔸𝕣𝕖 𝔼𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕪𝕨𝕙𝕖𝕣𝕖

We didn’t have any problems with image sharpness in the early years of the internet, because we didn’t need to show websites on mobile devices. Today we see a tremendous growth in mobile web surfing. So much so that, this year, it has even overtaken traffic on desktops. Most clients…

Uselessness of Full-Width Title Bars for Maximized Windows

Title bars are one of the best examples of wasted space in operating system software. They are usefull when your program window is minimized, so you can easily drag-n-drop it. But when your program window is maximized, too much space is wasted. 40319 pixels (excluding the top right window controls)…

Color Palette Must Be Humane

High contrast colors are difficult for the human eye to perceive. This is particularly true when reading and understanding big datasets, grids, tables, etc. The best formatting for homogeneous text is simple, almost black text (#333 according to RGB color model) on a white or light grey background. Things become…

Instant Actions: onMouseDown vs onClick

First of all, speed matters for most users. There are definitely users that don’t notice the difference between native desktop software (I don’t count all those Electron-based desktop versions of online software) and their online counterparts, but, typically, most users prefer native versions for frequently used software. Spreadsheets, image editors…
