New York
I was extemely lucky to be able to spend my eighteenth birthday In the concrete jungle that is New York. Ever since I was little I always had the dream to visit the beautiful city. Even now my bedroom is covered in prints of New York.
Flying into Newark Liberty International Airport on a clear, blue sky day certainly has its advantages. On the day I flew in, the direction of landing provided a magnificent view of the Manhattan Skyline out the left side of the aircraft. If you looked even closer the familiar shape of the Statue Of Liberty came into view. I think overall on the approach alone, I took over fifty photographs. Sadly this view was interupted by the army of cranes and shipping containers lining the New Jersey Port.
I was picked up at the airport by a yellow cab. This experience alone was amazing. I’d seen in Tv shows and movies what the New York taxi looked like, In real life it truly is a thing of beauty. On the journey into the centre of Manhattan I stared, hypnotised by the unmistakable skyline of New York City.
I arrived at my hotel in the early afternoon to be greated by an extremely nice gentleman who carried by bags to my room. The room itself was outstanding. The view from the window looked straight onto the Empire State Building (which I visited the following day). Once I was unpacked and satisfied with my room, I thought it was time to enter the hustle and bustle without any delay.
Firstly I took a walk five blocks and after only a few minute I was in Times Square. Lights, people and life everywhere. Advertising boards and TV screens carefully placed around all of the buildings. It looked like something that belonged in the future. It was just as lively and bright at night than it was during the day. It was kind of hard to comprehend considering the country I’m from.
Where I’m from their isnt much to see compared to a city like New York City. To see the Empire State building, Statue of Liberty and central park was a dream come true. It really allowed to imagine the possibilities that could become available to me in the future. It really encourages me to travel the world and meet a number of wonderful people. I felt welcome, even when I went into the shops. Every shop I went into an employee kindly offered me help and asked me how my day was going. Sadly we just dont get that kind of treatment back home.
The Empire State Building was the highlight. Being able to see the whole of New York from above was epic. It was a really enjoyable experience and one I want replicate. I took a trip to the 9/11 memorial. This knocked me back, after seeing the events happen on the TV all those years ago, It was heart-breaking to see the aftermath of what happened. The memorial taught me to repect life and also to respect all the people who lost their lives on that day. I’m truly sorry.
New York is the trip of a lifetime and its also a trip that I want to replicate in the future. The people I met and the experiences I witness I will tresure them forever. I really do respect the people who love me back home and I treasure being blessed with life. I’m thankful that I get to do things like this. To keep upto date with my life and travels I have a Youtube Channel and also I post on Twitter. When I’m not filming I post my mischievous adventures on Instagram.
Here are a few photos from the New York Trip.
