“Organizational culture eats strategy for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.” Drucker was absolutely correct. It’s certainly true in tech, where I’ve spent the last 30+ years. (Can you say “Uber?” I knew you could.) I’ve turned down jobs from Intel & Microsoft in the past decade and kept my job at a small private firm for that very reason.

A friend asked me how I could turn down an offer that would pay me 30% more than I make now. I explained that the culture would kill me, and the only question would be what happens first? Would I get fired for insubordination because I’m interested in successful results, not toeing the line? Or would I walk out before that because I hate failure almost as much as I detest a suffocating culture that stifles success?

As a Lions fan I wish Rams fans much luck. Y’all gonna need it.
