In Northern part of Nigeria girls below the age of adolescence are being forced into early marriages and been deprived of being to school even if they had the passion or desire to do so. These have been becoming a nightmare and a custom in the Northeast part of the country despite the insurgency and insecurity.

Somewhere last year 2016 a teenage girl with passion to learning was deprived of her right of being a learned person instead she’s been forced to becoming a wife which she’s not ready and soon will be coming a confused teenage mother. It happened in an IDP camp in one of the affected areas by the insurgency in the Northeastern part of Nigeria, (Konduga).

Yakaka, In Mandadari IDP camp konduga. Is a 15 years old girl was married to one Alhaji Kalli 42 years old man from Nigeria, And that is how her dream of going to school remained a dream that she may never wake up and have it in reality, Everything seem different and difficult for a 15 years old girl being pregnant after a month of being married at early age and yet to a man she barely knew with the sense that her friends she was growing up with had opportunity of going to school while shes being glued a man she have to take of his needs, and start thinking of how to deal with the pregnancy that she wasn’t experienced and yet too young to face or be in such situations.

The innocent teenage wife gave birth after 10 months of being married and these 10 months weren’t close to time she would forget in her life time, she luckily and successfully gave birth without any complications and health issues, only for the husband to divorce her and send her back to the camp where she came from,

So its once again new baby new life and yet a new home she had to adopt to, she managed her son and she makes locally handmade caps which she was expert on that to sell and take care of her son and herself and even had the opportunity to have that dream of being to school in reality, only to wake up into another devastating nightmare that her husband wants her back into the marriage again, which she objected and rejected his offer only her surprise to be summoned by court that her husband is filing a case against her, as a teenage mother with very few and not educated yet not financially stable relation to back her up in court or even support her in cash or in-kind she had to break down again thinking of going back to the nightmare she barely escaped.

Once a girl is married in the Northeast part of Nigeria the girl is subjected to very limited rights access to studies is one of the major factor, the victims of these types of marriages end up being treated as slave in their own homes, They only do as they are told to so by their so called husband which 85% to 90% of such marriages are being imposed on these innocents girls, they are being denied the freedom of being part of the western education classes mostly volunteered by the Military personal deployed to such communities and INGO’s staff therefore, they are limited to house chores and their masters chores ‘HUSBANDS’ while most of their mates (FRIENDS) are being part of such volunteered classes by military and INGO’s.
