How to Register your business on TripAdvisor
Before we begin, we would like to point out a most common confusion:
What’s the difference in claiming your business and listing your business.
You can claim the business if it already exists on the site. You can go here to see if a traveler/someone at your business has already added your business on TripAdvisor.
To check that, simply type the name of your business in the box. If it appears in the results drop down, a traveler/someone else in your business has already initiated a listing. Select your business from the drop down and then click the “Claim Your Business” button to confirm that you are affiliated with the property.
You can see all the steps on how to claim your business here.
However if your business is not listed under the drop down then you will have to register/list your business. You can click on “Get Listed link” shown at the bottom to get started.
Request a listing
We already saw that if your business is not listed on TripAdvisor yet, there won’t be any matches in the drop-down search results on the Owners page. Once you click on the “Get listed now” link below the search box, it brings you to a page where you can request a listing for your property.
Click on the type of business to proceed to next page.
You’ll need to provide a few different types of information about your business to get started. Then TripAdvisor team will use this information to confirm that your business meets listing criteria and to determine the best category for it on the site. So, provide as much detail as possible.
Here is a quick overview for each sections:
This section helps TripAdvisor verify your relationship with the business you are listing.
Provide your name, connection with the business, and email address. (TripAdvisor will send you a message to this email when your listing is published on TripAdvisor)
Listing information for your property
Here we will provide your business information including your company’s official name and address.
Once you’ve typed your address, place the marker on the correct location on the map. Your business’s mapped location will be shown to travelers on the site as they plan their trips. You’ll need to add your company’s website and phone number as well.
Travelers want to know some of the details about your property so here you will need to provide some of the details about your business.
These also help TripAdvisor display your business in the right category with relevant and detailed information your business. Let’s use accommodations as an example. You can see list of other categories here:
Accommodations: As an accommodation owner, your property will be listed in this specific section. Here are some of the specifics you will need to provide:
- Total number of rooms
- Price range
- Minimum stay requirements
- If you have on-site staff and security
- If room cleaning is included
- Front desk staffing details

Offer something more?
You want to let travelers know if you offer something more to help your hotel standout. Here is a chance to do so.
You’ll also be able to provide additional information on amenities including whether your property offers complimentary breakfast, suites, tennis/golf, beach/pool access, fitness center, internet access, etc. All these details will be added to the amenities section of your listing and will help travelers research what they can expect at your accommodation.
Add a property description
Property description helps travelers learn more about your business. This is essentially a quick pitch to get your customers interested in your hotel.
Here are some of things to keep in mind in writing your property description:
- What’s your Unique Selling Point? What sets your property apart from your competitors around you?
- While writing this, appeal to your target audience. If your accommodation is perfect for business travelers, talk about how it serves them the best, what amenities are suited for them?
- Also say little about your location. What makes it appealing? There is always something unique about your location. Is it close to freeway? Is it close to nightlife? near great restaurants? business district?
Choose a photo
Once the description is taken care of, now it is time to provide great photos of your property, which will help you make a strong first impression with potential customers.
Side note: just make sure that the photos are a .jpg or .gif. Also TripAdvisor does not accept images with borders, logos or files that are larger than 100kb.
Submit the listing
Once you’ve confirmed that all the information you provided is correct, click the ‘Submit’ button to complete this process!
What happens next?
Once you request your listing, TripAdvisor will verify your details and confirm that your property meets the guidelines, this normally takes about 5 days or less.
