If you’re looking for ways to make a truly passive income, creating a low-content book like a writing journal to sell on Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) may be a good option. I know this may sound far-fetched like something “others” do, but I guarantee you can create your own book too. The process is so super easy. I, with my sketchy tech skills, will show you how to create a book in 1 day to sell on Amazon KDP using Book Bolt.

Book Bolt is a book publishing software with everything you need to design and create low-content books such as notebooks, journals, calendars, planners, and music sheets. You can also upload your own manuscript and use Book Bolt’s features to format it correctly so you can upload it on KDP.

Just keep in mind you will need an Amazon account to create an Amazon KDP account, so you can upload and sell your book. Also, after you upload your book on Amazon, there is a 72-hour review period before it is available for sale.

Account

Go ahead, create a Book Bolt account using your 3-day free trial, and log in.

To create your book cover:

  1. Click the Research button.
  2. Click Create
  3. Click Book Bolt Designer
  4. Click Paperback or Hardcover (I used Paperback).
  5. Choose Cover from the drop-down menu.
  • Choose Trim Size — your book size (I used 6” x 9”).
  • Choose Page Color (I used Black & White).
  • Choose Page Count (number of pages).

6. Click Submit.

Images & Text

  1. Click Resources, search for an image you want or upload your image.
  2. Expand the Image to fit entirely in the box (the front of the book is on the right).
  3. Click Shapes, choose one to put on the cover, and drag and adjust the shape to your liking. To change color, click your shape, then the black circle in the upper left.
  4. Click Text, select and write your title.
  5. Click Download.

Interior

  1. Click Interior.
  • Choose Bleed — If you want your text to go to the end of your book’s page.
  • Choose No Bleed — If you don’t.
  • Select Size from the drop-down menu (It must be the same size you selected for the book cover).
  • Add the Page Count.
  • Choose a Template for your book pages.

2. Click Download.

Plans & Pricing

While it is not free to use Book Bolt, they offer a 3-day free trial. If you want to subscribe, they have two plans, both of which offer research options. This allows you to gather data on the best-selling books on Amazon and strategize on the book you want to create and sell. You can also use my code guidedbythepen2 to get 20% off your subscription price. The plans are:

  1. The Newbie — is $9.99 if you pay monthly or $89.99 if you pay yearly (this plan offers a 3-day free trial).
  2. The Pro — is $19.99 if you pay monthly or $199.99 if you pay yearly.

Disclosure

I used Book Bolt to create my book cover, not my manuscript because their templates did not match the theme of my book. The free 3-day trial only allows you to use their templates to create a writing journal.

Honestly, it was frustrating to format and convert my manuscript properly without using Book Bolt.

While I am an Affiliate for Book Bolt, this is an honest post about my experience using Book Bolt.
