Everybody loves to travel but have you ever wondered how is it work in a travel company? Well, having been working in one, I would obviously say it’s great but don’t take my word for it. What I’ve felt with Royal Mysore is that it is a company that one “works with” rather than “works for”. On second thoughts, it’s not even “work” but a series of learnings and un-learnings that you get paid for ;) Okay, we might be pushing it now but here’s the deal- Let me walk you through a typical day at Royal Mysore Walks for an Operations Associate!

9:30 AMStand up time! We start the day running through what are the important bits that the team is working on. We would like to believe that it helps us work better as a team. Today Faizan, the creative guy in working on wrapping up a video project. Prajwal the marketing guru, is working on collaborating with a few hotels and I need follow up on a booking from a corporate from Bangalore. Like any startup, the designations here are just namesake. There are times when I lead tours, the creative guy gets stuck answering mail and the CEO mops the office floor when needed!

10:00 AMFirst call of the day! A couple who’ve cycled all the way from Portugal to India and are interested in a brief introduction to Mysore and it’s culture. They wouldn’t want to do a cycle tour (obviously!) so I explained the different tours we offered and then recommended the Best of Mysore, a walking tour we run everyday at 5pm. They booked right away. Now, I need to look for who is going to do the tour as per the tour scheduling and inform our tour lead about it.

11:15 AMTravel agent mail: There is an email from one of our travel agent partners, there are 20 guests from Israel who are on a tour of South India and would love to experience our Culinary Tour, well some Dosa and dosti, that’s what our culinary tour is about! Shopping at the Devaraja market and cooking along with a warm local family that is hosting them. The tour got confirmed, and I call up all the lovely ladies we work with to inform them about when the tour is. Well, some cultural exchange over lip-smacking food.

1:00 PM — Grabbing lunch, also also checking as to what Faizan, the creative guy from my company posted on Instagram/facebook/twitter. After this make a quick check on the remaining tasks for the day and get started with them.

2:00 PM — Abhilash who lead tours, dropped by at office. He is hosting our team meeting this month, in Dec and has some interesting plans of making it Christmas themed. Also our man some tour experiences to share with me, this way I get to listen so many interesting stories of our guest who come on tours I congratulate him on getting six awesome 5 star reviews on Tripadvisor this month.

3:30 PM — Byee… Abhilash. Last week we had a unique request, to curate a tour for an American couple coming to Mysore for third time and interested in discovering more of Mysore- and this is where we come in! There’s so much joy in customising a travel experience of a lifetime based on their interest! They are well versed in history, art and architecture and had a deep interest in understanding more about old Mysore. Hence I had went ahead for a recce along with my team. Starting from Ramsons/Bombe Mane to visiting homes in Agrahara and later meeting a renowned artist who is famous for Mysore Style Painting The artist and his home in Agrahara, will help the guest get a peek of old Mysore.

6:30 PM — wrap up the day, back home and head out for a swim!

Is this something that sounds exciting to you? Then, Apply here !
