Boko Haram cannot be stopped by local Nigerian troops because their hearts are not in the fight. It also seems that the troops and by extension their commanders are cowardly and incompetent. In Africa on all levels of mammalian existence only the most brutal and the strongest survive, out of this disposition tactics and strategies evolve, this is now coming to pass. Due to dwindling oil prices any and all reasons to support Goodluck Jonathan’s regime continue to evaporate, there is no reason to expend effort or lives to confront Boko Haram(democracy and freedom are not enough anymore). If they want military help they’re going to have to buy it. There are plenty of mercenary(western or eastern) groups that could stabilize the country for a price and stop BKs advance but are the Nigerians interested in footing the bill? There’s not much time to ruminate on this, half of the country is gone.
