The fight for continued cannabis reform has taken a leap recently as Santa Clara County, California has set a new precedent for criminal justice. Specifically, proper legal handling of current and past cannabis convictions…over 11,500 cannabis convictions just in Santa Clara County alone.

Santa Clara is treading new paths as a pioneering vision for federal cannabis legal reform. These expungements are not helping all of those still in prison for cannabis convictions, so how are other regions, counties, states, or even the federal government going to respond?

Will anyone follow their lead? That is what Santa Clara’s act of courage is looking to accomplish. They are seeking to create more national awareness, and justice, surrounding the outdated cannabis law of today.

The Beginning

Since the beginning, the State of California has led the way in cannabis reform by allowing the personal possession, cultivation, and use of recreational marijuana with the passage of Proposition 64, more commonly referred to as simply “Prop 64”, on November 8, 2016.
