ASO — Nice article but I wanted to point out a few issues.

  1. Looking at ISIS as an army defined by Clausewitz is problematic. Where is the battlefield; is it confined to the territory of Syria and Iraq or is it Paris, San Bernardino, or any other population center?
  2. Does ISIS need a supply line in the traditional definition or does it use from the local economy as it moves? Since they are driving M-1s and other U.S. vehicles seems they are finding enough abandoned equipment.
  3. Looking at the ISIS motivations and recruiting without considering Islamic religious teachings and thinking does not present a clear picture of why an ISIS fighter is willing to endure what most westerners would walk away from.

Three books which I reviewed that you may find interesting are in this article published a few months ago.
