These men are symbols of a culture that is also everpresent at HBCUs. Now, if I were addressing the ways in which PWIs, whiteness and white gaze were/are wrong, I’d have made many of these spot-on points.

Now, if you can acknowledge the cape of whiteness and of financial interest in maintaining an image toward a desired end, you must also see the ways in which HBCUs, the Black Church and our unwillingness to educate ourselves and have justice make us uncomfortable is complicit in this culture.
