Drawing notation — Central park setup
My drawing is inspired by Cedric price’s work on the Fun Palace, which was done in 1964. This project consisted of architectural drawings of different views, some bringing axonometric form, others in elevation or in a map form. None of these were orthodox in anyway, as he wanted them do break away from the norm of architectural drawings. They consisted mostly of objects similar to scaffolding as he wanted it to be like a machine that is being interacted with socially. Each of the pieces in the fun palace consist of different events and people interacting with the building.
I had attempt to incorporate all these ideas into my drawing of the Central Park.
I first attempted to draw the first level and practiced different line weights and precision with my lines. For the next draft I attempted to radicalise it adding different scaffolds and people doing different things.
For my final piece I cut back some of the craziness with the people but added more detail to the next two levels and shifted and contoured different angles on the levels and the stairs to feel like the inner works of a machine or playground with the people interacting with their own different objectives making it a social space, and not seen as a shopping mall at all.
