Sprint review development HERO Week 34–36

As you already know our dev department applies a scrum framework in order to manage and ensure an agile progression for herosphere.gg, thus we want to share what has happened during the last sprint!

Know your heroes.. or how others like to call it: “Know Your Customer” (KYC)

We partnered up with one of the not only most prominent but also trusted ID verification providers — Jumio, so this sprint we started implementing the KYC process but since we are having so much fun deploying a secure, fast and user-friendly KYC process,

we decided to continue working on this matter of high importance in the following sprint as well ;) First we started burying our heads into the API, and prepare the migration. During the KYC process our users never have to leave herosphere.gg because the KYC will be flawlessly integrated in the wallet creation process. Users have to fill out their sur- and last name, residential address and upload a picture of their government-issued ID. If you are interested in why we have to do KYC please read more details in our KYC article here >>.

Contests

We had to fix some bugs that mainly occured when users came via the API. Additionally, we needed to evaluate solutions for scenarios of forfeits and disqualifications of teams.

A design update for the contest page now shows full first fold pictures in the background of the dedicated esports titles, new icons for match & fantasy as well as some color adaption.

We also introduced a new pagination which fixed bugs in displays and also now allows you to eg. jump 10 pages ahead if there are more pages.

UX design

With the integration of KYC there is some design adaption that needs to be made. Also some details like checkmarks or loading circles in the progress map on the left are being added for a better orientation.

Currently we have planned the following user flow: start with KYC, which runs in the background while the user finishes the wallet creation. this will be tested by our beta community though and we can improve according to the received feedback.

Also, our lead designer kept working on the prototypes for the future of the herosphere.gg experience. Currently, there are two versions he follows. One version includes more functionalities on different levels whereas the other one follows a cleaner approach.

What else?

  • Our Blockchain Backend System (BBS) received minor tweaks, for the cases of parity updates and downtimes.
  • A bug occurring from time to time, resulting in our HEROcoin watcher — not automatically recovering the connection to parity if the socket connection is lost — is being fixed.
  • We optimized and automated infrastructure workflow with the help of Ansible. And are now using cloudmapper to ease infrastructure optimization and requirements by providing visualizations tools.
  • Important marketing update due to unbounced landing pages, resulting in various important opportunities to target different geographical and demographical target groups with personalized marketing campaigns.
