Do you take the time to review your habits?

We seem so eager to add new habits to our life. How often do we take a hard look at our current habits that we have and ensure they are still serving us?

“So in the majority of other things, we address circumstances not in accordance with the right assumptions, but mostly by following wretched habit. Since all that I’ve said is the case, the person in training must seek to rise above, so as to stop seeking out pleasure and steering away from pain; to stop clinging to living and abhorring death; and in the case of property and money, to stop valuing receiving over giving.” — Musonius Rufus, Lectures, 6.25.5–11

Are your habits leading you towards the life you desire or a life you despair?

Three quick tips to help you evaluate your habits:

❖Find what you do out of rote memory or routine.

❖Ask yourself: Is this really the best way to do it?

❖Know why you do what you do — do it for the right reasons.

Be conscious of the habits you’re cultivating. Are they aligned with your goals and values?

If the answer is yes: Great! Keep them.

If the answer is No: Ask yourself how you may change that habit into one that better serves you.

When starting new or changing old habits to better ones. Start small. Really small. Microscopic small.

Set a timer and tell yourself you will just do the new or revised habit for 2 minutes.

If you decide to go longer, wonderful, but at least meet your benchmark. You can keep increasing the time as you go.

This will aid in consistently practicing the good habit.

Little by little, when you look back over a month or two, you will see the amazing progress and improvements your habits have made in your life.
