Being autistic and neuro-divergent in a normal world has challenges.

When talking with some of my fellow autistic friends, these five tools were universal among us for things that drastically improved our lives. Autistic people have diverse needs and preferences, so what might make our lives easier may not work for others.

1. Weighted Blanket

Studies have shown that getting good restorative sleep is important for both the body and the mind.

Adults should get 7–9 hours of sleep a night. This is not time spent in bed, but actual sleep.

I have noticed that when sleeping with a weighted blanket; I feel more rested and alert when I wake up. My sleep tracking confirms this by showing a more solid uninterrupted sleep, compared to a more fragmented sleep when I sleep without the weighted blanket.

Tip:

As weighted blankets are to be used by a single person, the most effective size is the twin size.

The twin size is the smallest and since there is a smaller surface area, there is more weight per square inch compared to the larger queen/king size blankets.
