When the Sgt. Maj. speaks you should stop, read, soak up his knowledge…P.S. watch out for jokers
Wow, this year is moving pretty fast! It’s already April and, even though we are only a few weeks into spring, changes are really starting to happen. Leaves are returning to the trees and flowers are beginning to bloom. The grass is starting to grow back and soon we’ll have to get our lawnmowers out. As for the weather, I’m not sure if Mother Nature really knows what she wants to do, at least here in the cornfields of Illinois where we’ve had a constant back and forth of nice, warm weather followed by temperature drops and very cold, rainy, and cloudy weather. But, now that spring is finally here, I’ll bet everyone can’t wait for what will be coming around the corner next — summer.
Well, you can look forward to being fooled by your friends and family on April 1st. April Fool’s Day is typically celebrated by playing lighthearted practical jokes on people. This tradition is one that kids really love because it’s a time for them to have a bit of fun by pranking all of their friends (and even us adults). Will you be the one being fooled or will you be fooling others? With that being said, keep an eye out on the office pranksters come the First of April!
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Prevention Month (SAAPM). As we go through the month, there will be many events taking place throughout the command to raise awareness of this very important issue. Some of these activities include SAAPM Teal Tuesdays (when you wear teal each Tuesday in April); SHARP Denim Day on April 26th; and SHARP Awareness Walks, scavenger hunts and much more. Please go out and support these events as Sexual Assault Awareness Prevention is important no matter where you work, and will not be tolerated in any organization. If you would like more details about SAAPM or any of the events that are planned, please contact our SDDC SHARP Representative, Mrs. Sharon Bryant.
Finally, let me share a quick tip about how we can all improve our personal fitness while also taking advantage of the nicer spring weather. Consider setting a goal to “sneak” additional exercise into your schedule. If you can get yourself into the habit of sneaking in exercise throughout your day, you will continue to improve fitness even on days you can’t make a scheduled workout. How? The answer is as easy as taking a nightly walk after dinner, parking your car as far from the store or office building entrance as you can and walking in, or taking the stairs in favor of the elevator. Those extra steps you sneak in each day will, over time, easily add more fitness into your life.
