World War II seems to be the leitmotif of many a games and the Real Time Tactics (RTT) based Sudden Strike 4 is no different in that respect. In its fifth avatar and fourth in a standalone mode, this game has got a new developer in the form of Kite Games. Published by Kalypso Media, the game, available on online video game store, does not take off from its predecessor series, namely the Sudden Strike 3 but showcases a whole new war dynamics with around hundred different units and the presence of decorated commanders of World War II like Montgomery and Patton. The latter duo can unveil military doctrines that are capable of equipping troops (at the command of players) with strategic command and combat abilities. The game has brought about around 20 single player war scenarios, and a slew of challenging situations like a focus mode, LAN and an online multiplayer one. Interestingly, the version available on Steam has been provided with Linux support as well — noticeably the first of its kind.

Brasstacks of Sudden Strike 4:

Where Sudden Strike 4 differs from similar games of its genre is in the inability of its players to raise a new unit. On the face of it, it might look a tad disappointing and even quite slow to execute but if thought through wisely, allows the player(s) to strategize — in other words, is definitely more challenging. To illustrate what a challenge could mean: In its realistic war depiction a player can marshall his or her troops to go near the enemy by hiding behind the thick armour of ‘friendly’ tanks or get to destroy the enemy tanks by taking advantage of their weak rear armour. Also, the player can hide individual soldiers by making them lie down in sunflower fields thus presenting a tougher situation for the enemy to even identify them let alone hitting them. Moreover, a tank can be repaired only if it gets critically damaged unlike in a few games where the tanks can be brought back into action no matter in what state of disrepair they are in.

Besides, the player can choose a commander and use his abilities in the face of daunting challenges. Also, employing unusual tactics like carrying soldiers on tank tops can earn brownie points to the player, which get added as the game progresses. At the end of each mission the player wins 1–3 stars depending on the points he accrued. Furthermore, these points can equip commanders with special abilities.

Stunning Graphics:

The landscape comprising of sunflower or wheat fields, detailing of tanks, tracks made by individual soldiers and tanks, the spectacle of flying debris, and the blowing up of tanks seem tantalisingly real. Moreover, the spectacular simulation of the withering of individual sunflower plants when soldiers hiding there eventually push ahead, is to be seen than to believe.

Cross platform support

The online multiplayer part of Sudden Strike 4 supports cross platforms such as Windows, Mac and Linux, besides being compatible with Steam and GOG versions. The awesome combination of graphics, strategy, and varied challenges makes Sudden Strike 4 a thrilling game to play. Hence, for gaming aficianados it would be worthwhile to buy Sudden Strike 4 CD key from any online game key store and partake in the thrill.
