For the past few months, the EXODUS team at HTC has been hard at work on our next large project: the EXODUS 1s, a lower-cost version of our pioneering cryptophone, the EXODUS 1.

The EXODUS 1 was predicated on the idea that the future of the web (and digital technologies at large) will be decentralization and the future of finance will be centered around digital assets, namely Bitcoin and Ethereum.

You see, throughout the history of the internet so far, it has been common practice to allow centralized third parties to control your online identity, personal data, and assets. Thus, the background of the EXODUS 1 was (and still is) to “rebuild trust, one phone at a time.”

Our vision is much the same for the EXODUS 1s.

So without further ado, the meat of this blog: we’re finally launching the EXODUS 1s.

Cryptophone: EXODUS 1s

At Berlin’s The Lightning Conference on October 19th, 2019, HTC Decentralized Chief Officer Phil Chen announced the launch of the EXODUS 1s.

Put simply, this new device is a cost-effective version of our EXODUS 1s flagship, which has helped to bring Bitcoin mobile. The EXODUS 1s will provide an opportunity for users who want to dip their toes into the crypto world and harness the powers of blockchain technology at the more accessible price point.

More specifically, our new device will come with the Zion Vault, an all-in-one key management and cryptocurrency wallet software that allows users to buy, secure, receive, send, trade, collect, lend, and borrow digital assets.

Regarding this new product, Phil Chen stated:

We are providing the tools for access to universal basic finance; the tools to have a metaphorical Swiss bank in your pocket.

Indeed, a key narrative behind the EXODUS 1s is empowering users to “become their own bank” through a comprehensive crypto-enabled device as easy to use as a smartphone — a combination that we like to define as a “cryptophone.”

A Bitcoin Full Node… Wait for it… in Your Pocket

To accomplish the goal of bringing banking services to the individual, we have made a ground-breaking development: with the EXODUS 1s and through the Zion Vault, you will be able to natively (with the addition of an SD card) operate a full Bitcoin node on your phone.

What would be an “all-in-one bank in your pocket” without a Bitcoin full node, right?

For those not versed in this industry’s lingo, a Bitcoin full node is software that allows devices to verify and process blocks in the Bitcoin network. Thus far, full nodes have been software for laptops and desktops; however, we’re looking to change this with the EXODUS 1s.

The EXODUS team at HTC believes that the mainstreaming of Bitcoin's full node software on mobile devices will be important in the (r)evolution towards cryptocurrency and self-sovereignty.

We want to bring a decentralized banking solution to your pocket… And the EXODUS 1 and 1s are key steps in an exodus, if you will, to this endgame.

Welcome to the r/evolution…
