The Health Benefits of Sit-Stand Desks
What can I do to be healthier? How often have we all asked ourselves that question? Taking even the smallest step to being healthy can seem overwhelming. In recent years, there has been an increased interest in adjustable standing desks, but are they really the answer to our health dreams?
Smithsonian Magazine says that the average office worker sits for more than 5 hours a day — and that’s just at work. They also suggest that changing the focus in offices to standing can increase cardiovascular health, decrease obesity and reduce our chances of developing diabetes.
But will standing all day really help change the problems associated with sitting? Not quite. Studies show that while sitting all day isn’t beneficial, neither is standing all day. If you’ve ever worked a retail or food service job, you know how true that is. Standing all day can lead to back pain, achy feet and other issues.
The ideal solution then is a sit-stand desk that allows you to sit or stand in intervals. The CDC even performed a study that shows that adjustable height desks are an ideal solution to increasing productivity and encouraging healthier habits.
