What I’ve learned so far (after an intense 2 wk Andela bootcamp)
My coding and development experience is mainly from self-teaching, watching videos, reading books and several blog that I follow religiously. My education background is a bit mathy so I’ve always been interested more in graphing techniques and statistical programming. This helped me quite a bit in college since I made a point to put most of the theories we learnt to practice using languages like R.
Here was a company that was actually offering to pay techies for training and in the process give them the chance to work for companies most of us only read about. This was definitely something I had to be part of, fortunately I was accepted to join a 2 week bootcamp and get the chance to learn and experience an intense program aimed at preparing the successful applicants (after the 2 week program) for the fellowship positions in the company.
This was a whole new experience for me, my teacher has always been frequent stack overflow and google trolling for answers. It was class based and the instructor expected us to be pro-active during the 2 week period showing and showcasing your ability to learn and prove you were the best fit for the position.
The general feeling you get once you enter their gates in unforgettable, morning warm ups and mind sharpening games to prepare us for the day’s work. This was evidently quite the highlight of the day as we got out of our comfort zones and opened up to the Andela culture. The work place was definitely a place to envy and yearn to be a part of.
The 2 weeks seemed to fly by as we came to the end of the bootcamp and had to showcase our personal projects to show our progress.
Recap: It’s been an awesome 2 weeks full new experiences that will definitely with me for good.
