Being a Mozillian
Well, you’ve heard so much about Mozilla but don’t have a clue about where to start? In last few months, while mentoring new Mozillians we came to know that most new open source contributors don’t know about Mozilla and how to contribute to Mozilla projects. So we decided to write an article, where you can learn where and how to contribute to Mozilla.

What is Mozilla? (Mozilla and it’s mission)
Mozilla is an open-source organization which is working to keep the Internet we love, OPEN. It started in 1998, with the idea of creating an open-source browser. While almost everyone knows Mozilla for Firefox, there are lots of other projects from Mozilla in the field of various cutting edge technologies, including Machine Learning and Virtual Reality.

Volunteers (aka Mozillians)
Being a Mozillian doesn’t require any specific things to get started with. Even though, there’s no such thing as meritocracy at Mozilla, your Mozillian role will be solely based on your contribution area. Such as:
- Contributors
- Campus Club Leads
- Mozilla Regional Coordinators (to support Campus Clubs)
- Mozilla Representatives (Reps)
- Mozilla Reps Council
- Mozilla Tech Speakers
Even though you don’t need to pass any on-boarding test or quest to be a Mozillian, creating a Mozillian profile helps fellow Mozillians to connect with you and keep track of your activities.
Mozillian Profile
- Just go to mozillians.org
- Create an account
- Submit necessary details, and voila you’re a Mozillian. Welcome aboard!

- The concept of vouching a Mozillian profile: To encourage good work, fellow Mozillians (who has more than 3 vouches) can vouch your profile as a token of appreciation.
Contribution Areas
You’ve became a Mozillian, now what? Let me help you find contribution areas in the Mozilla community.
- Campus Club: It’s a local groups of students with a passion for technology working together to build the open web on University and College campuses worldwide. To learn more, checkout this website: https://campus.mozilla.community/
- Regional Community: We get a lot of invitations to represent Mozilla at various types of events, hence we always need passionate volunteers who can spread Mozilla’s mission and deliver talks on Mozilla technologies. More on this, later part of this post.
- Individual Contributor: We at Mozilla, contributors are always welcomed. If a regional community is not present in your region (we’d love if you can start one!), still you can start contributing to many Mozilla projects. We’ll discuss more on this, during the later part of the post.
Communities
We at Mozilla, love the community spirit. Being a part of something big, is just awesome. So, to communicate with fellow Mozillians, we have a ton of groups on Telegram (did I tell you how much we love Telegram at Mozilla?).
