I agree with everything you said in your excellent response. I am also tired of Americans who believe that “innocent until proven guilty” is a concept that does not apply to people whose skin is too light in color. I am tired of those who will urge their fellow Americans to block streets and riot and loot and burn their own cities, as though that won’t increase resentment against them. I am tired of seeing photos of the dead guy as a child at nine years of age instead of photos of him at 18 holding guns and smoking crack, on his Facebook page where he advocates crime and hatred. A very famous man once hoped publicly that some day, his children would be judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I believe he would be happy today if he could see how racism has been almost wiped out in this country. But he would be sad and frustrated if he could see that the content of some people’s character has eroded and declined to the point where criminal behavior is seen as acceptable and justified because it has become part of the “culture.” Next time you hear about a flash mob doing a smash and grab at a mall, or a massive fist fight including baseball bats at Wal-Mart, try to picture the participants before you read the story. Then open the article and see if you were right. MLK would be justifiably appalled if he were alive today.
