Often times you’ll feel the need to convert your presentations to videos but if it’s Google Slides then you’ll quickly realize there is no easy way to create a video of your presentation. Because unlike Microsoft Powerpoint, Google does not offer a built-in way to export your slides as videos.

Enter SlideVid — Slides Video Maker

SlidVid — Slides Video Maker

SlideVid — Slides Video Maker is a free Google Slides add-on that lets you easily convert your slide presentations into high-quality videos which you can then download as MP4 files and use it however you wish.

SlideVid adds two important features to help you with creating videos — the ability to add background audio and the ability to set a custom time interval per slide.

Let’s look at how to convert Slides to Videos using SlideVid.

1. Install SlideVid in your Google Slides from the GSuite Marketplace

Open Google Slides and click on Add-ons -> Get add-ons.

Installing SlideVid addon

Search for Slides Video Maker

Search for slides video maker

If you are on a GSuite account and want to install the add-on for the whole team then click on Domain Install (you might ask your IT admin to do that) or if you just want to install it to your account click the Individual install.

Note: If you are not able to install it you might ask your IT admin to allow add-on installs.

2. Run SlideVid and Sign Up for a free account

Click on Add-ons -> Slides Video Maker -> Open to start SlideVid

3. Enter time interval per slide or keep it a default of 3 seconds per slide

The nature of presentations is that not all slides can be viewed within the same amount of time. Each slide is different. Hence, every slide requires a different amount of time to view and understand what’s on it.

When you are converting your presentation into a video it makes sense to add a different time interval to each slide so it is shown for a longer or shorter duration in the video depending on its content.

4. Add an audio file to be played in the background of the video

Upload an audio file by clicking on the Choose File button

A video without audio doesn’t really engage so make sure to use the Upload Audio feature to make your videos lively and engaging.

The audio file can be a voiceover recording that is narrating the presentation or it could simply be a soundtrack. Once uploaded, SlideVid will sync the audio and play it in the background of the video.

Convert Slides to High-Quality Videos in MP4 format

Click the Create Video button to start the conversion process.

Create the video of your presentation

Depending on the number of slides your presentation has it might take a couple of minutes to create the video. Once the video is created, it is available to download.

The output resolution of the converted videos is 1280x720 pixels and their format is MP4.

Creating a Text to Speech voiceover for your presentation

A presentation with a voiceover is a lot more effective in conveying the information. But not everyone has the time to record a voiceover. Thankfully tools like Play.ht make it easy to create natural-sounding voiceovers with realistic Text to Speech voices.

You can then download the voiceover audio an MP3 file and use it in SlideVid to add it to your video.

Adding Slide Animations to Videos

Slide animations are one of the important aspects of presenting a presentation and it’s equally important to have them while converting the slides to videos.

Apparently there is no way to get the animation information from Slides but the team at SlideVid is working on a solution to add aminations to the videos!
